The Lucky Seven Game

Posted in Writing with tags on May 2, 2012 by Loriendil

In the spirit of starting to get back to writing, I’m going to try the Lucky Seven Game.

Here’s the rules:

  1. Go to page 77 of your current MS
  2. Go to line 7
  3. Copy down the next seven lines as they’re written—no cheating!

(It seems to me even with no cheating, this can be variable. The final font I use for submission isn’t the font size I write in as my eyes are so bad I must use a much large print. Anyway, I’m using “final font” not my “writing font.” Not that anyone really would know that but me, but—ah well, I’m digressing…)

Here goes, from my WIP:

Janadhan sat on his throne, leaning on one elbow. “This is a rare treat. And why would Avadhron, Chief of the Elites, want to speak with me?”

Avadhron bowed. “Your Majesty. I come with concerns for your safety.”

Janadhan threw his head back and laughed loudly. “You? Concerned for my safety?” He leaned forward, baring his teeth. “You despise me, cousin.”

Avadhron stood, unmoving, not allowing any expression. Janadhan regarded him, silently, through narrowed eyes. Slowly, he straightened, then settled back in the throne, still

Aaaand, because it’s my favorite story, I’m adding one from the first novel in the sword-and-planet series I’m continuing to polish:

Vitran strode over to a heavyset woman berating a girl for how she kneaded the bread. She turned, her face red from the heat, and a set look on her face as if she had been given vinegar to drink.

Vitran shoved Tam forward. “I have a girl for you, Linna. Put her to work.”

“What?” She wiped her hands on her apron. “Just like that?”

“If you don’t need help, I can find other work for her.”

“I can use the help,” Linna replied in a surly voice, glaring at Vitran.

(The second isn’t so great a choice to pique (peak? peek?) interest, but I’m too in love with the story to omit it.)

If any of my writing buds wants to play the game, post away—either here or on your blog and leave the link below.
