I can still remember, decades ago, going to the hospital to see my uncle. Before I even got to his room, I could hear him terrorizing the nurses. I rushed in and gave him a dressing down, and his bluster sunk as he wilted down in the bed (I was amazed I was able to do this because I’d only ever seen my mother accomplish such a feat!), and he muttered an apology.
I turned to the nurses and said, “I’m sorry. Thank you for caring for this old curmudgeon!”
The nurses smiled, and one laughed and said, “Boy is that an accurate description!”
And she didn’t know the half of it!
