Dover Comic Con 2017 Was the Best Yet!

Posted in Events, Writing with tags , , , , , , , , on August 20, 2017 by Loriendil

Arise, arise, Fandoms of Comic Con!
Fun deeds awake: LARP and laughter!
pics shall be taken, bling shall be gotten,
a geek-day, a hot day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride now to Dover!
(with profound apologies to Prof. Tolkien)

Yesterday was the most amazing Dover Comic Con yet!
I saw many friends and there were some I looked for but didn’t find, although I know they were there: Everett De Morier, Liz DeJesus, Kristen L Corbett, Will Hahn, Jason Mears, Kerri Hollyday, James Dufendach, Frank Dawson Jr, Christy Shaffer, and Becky Palmer. (Especially Liz DeJesus, who helped me set up, and came by just to see if I was okay later on. Hugs, my friend!)
If I’ve forgotten anyone, I’m sorry, but I came home and collapsed almost immediately and slept for over twelve hours straight. I’m still not totally awake and coherent.

The panel on “What an Editor Wants” was fun – lots of folks showed up. I hope I didn’t frighten them, because that wasn’t my intent. But the business is so cutthroat, I wanted to emphasize that you must be on your best game, and be as professional as possible. Will Hahn co-hosted with me, and I think he un-scared them after I got finished terrorizing them.

I’m uploading the cosplay photos to my FB author page, and I apologize because I didn’t get lots of pics because my booth was so busy!
Folks constantly stopped, asking about my books – I didn’t have to do any hawking, which is great because I’m lousy at it. LOL
I had some few run up with gasps or squeals and saying, “Is that book two?” about Deuces Wild: Stacking the Deck (one man marched over, picked up Stacking the Deck and held it high, and huffed, “FINALLY!”Β  I told him book three was already being written, to which he replied, “Good!”), and others who were groaning because the sequel to Sword’s Edge wasn’t yet released. I made sure they either took a business card or took advantage of the QR code for my website so they could keep up with news about the release of the sequel.
A few even slowed walking past and called out to the effect of, “I have her books, they’re great! Can’t wait for more!” as folks were huddled at my booth.
It’s a strange but fantastic feeling to know you’re an author with fans, and that they’re eagerly awaiting more stories!

Dover Comic Con Is Almost Upon Us!

Posted in Events, Writing with tags , , , , , , , on August 13, 2017 by Loriendil

It’s less than a week until the Dover Comic Con, and I’m getting excited! Cosplay, spending the day with My People, geeking out about geeking – I cannot wait!!!

Since it’s so close to the Con, I thought I’d do a little self-promotion. I don’t do this well. But it’s part and parcel of being an author, so I sorta have to if I want my stories read. And I do want my stories read! Makes sense, eh?

If you haven’t yet gotten Sword’s Edge, now is the time to buy it, so you can be ready to read the sequel – and no, it’s not published, but it’s close! The sequel is finished, it’s just techy/business/marketing stuff at this point. But soooooon!
And it’s called Children of the Enaisi. Remember that. Soon. Honest. Very soon!

And what are these two books about, you ask? They’re all about swords, capes, and fun medieval-ish culture, but no, there’s no magic. Not what we would call magic, although some of the people on that world might. It’s forgotten ancient technology, and it’s being rediscovered.

From the review by the TLC Librarian: “King creates wonderful characters, unfolding them naturally… [She] weaves science fiction with the setting and atmosphere of the medieval period in a way that is believable and thrilling. From swords and candles to artificial light and automatic doors, she makes it all fit together. Sword’s Edge is another triumph for Lee King. I’m already asking for the sequel.”

And if you come to the Con, you can buy Sword’s Edge, and get it signed by the crazy dame that wrote it! πŸ™‚

And about my other series, Deuces Wild – there are two novels published in that series. Beginners’ Luck and Stacking the Deck.
Cowboys and space pirates; lassos, horses, and ray guns; ranchers and galactic governments; and all with lots of swashbuckling and just plain fun.
Don’t take my word for it:

“It’s fast-paced, fun, and well-written. …you probably won’t put it down until you finish.”
Lou Antonelli

“In DEUCES WILD, L. S. King gives us a fast-moving adventure, told with wit and grace, and more than a dose of humor.”
Mike Resnick

So there you have it!

And again, if you don’t have the books, you can pick them up at Dover Comic Con this coming Saturday, 19 August, 2017, at booth #52.
I’ll be there.
With bells on!
